Travel Alberta wins global tourism “Oscar”
Travel Alberta’s “remember to breathe” video production was recognized today with the Diamond Award as the best entry in the annual Golden City Gate international film and media competition at the International Tourism Fair (ITB) in Berlin. Travel Alberta’s entry also won a gold award in the “regions” category, beating out entries from Spain, Mexico, France, Finland, Switzerland and Germany.
“Albertans are proud of their home and they want to share it with the world. Travel Alberta’s powerful new brand captures that pride by showcasing the stunning beauty and the exhilaration visitors experience when they come to our province,” said Jack Hayden, Minister of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. “This award acknowledges our commitment to make a stronger impact in the global marketplace and to welcome more people to Alberta each and every year.”
“This award is very prestigious recognition by our global peers in tourism for Travel Alberta’s new tourism brand launched last October,” said Bruce Okabe, Travel Alberta’s Chief Executive Officer. “Since bringing our brand to life, response from Alberta tourism operators, our international partners and most importantly, travellers from around the globe, has exceeded our expectations. We are very confident that our brand is making millions of people more aware of Alberta as a must see vacation destination and will directly contribute to increasing visitation and growing Alberta’s $5.5 billion tourism industry,” he said.
Travel Alberta’s brand videos and television commercials were produced by Calgary’s karo Group.
Considered to be one of the “Oscars” by the international travel and tourism industry, the Golden City Gate awards recognize film and multi-media excellence in 15 categories. Winners are chosen by an international jury consisting of 40 representatives from international and national tourism associations as well as tour operators, economic experts, service suppliers, and government officials.
