The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre hosts conventions, tradeshows and meetings for national, international and local groups.  We are currently looking to fill a full time Maintenance Worker position.

This position is responsible for performing general maintenance in the facility, assisting with shipping and receiving duties on the loading dock and assisting clients with setup and teardown of tradeshows, conventions and other events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • General maintenance of the interior and exterior of the buildings, which would include, but is not limited to, repairing damage to meeting rooms, public areas and offices (i.e. patching and painting walls, restaining woodwork, replacing and repairing wallpaper, repair or replacing floor and ceiling tiles, doors, moldings and windows etc.)
  • Repair furniture and equipment
  • Setup and teardown risers and steps attached to the risers
  • Maintain electrical floor boxes
  • Perform and/or assist contractors with renovations
  • Deliver client freight from the loading dock to the appropriate meeting rooms and pick up any freight remaining in the meeting rooms at the end of the function and deliver back to the loading dock
  • Maintain shop equipment (saws, routers, drills, etc.) in good working condition
  • Operate the forklift to move freight within the facility
  • Setup and tear down of wheelchair and special ramps
  • Ensure rigging is installed according to regulations
  • Ensure accurate invoicing for services provided by the department (i.e. labor, riser and banner handling, fork and scissor lift services)
  • Assist other departments with forklift operation
  • Operate the scissor-lift to hang banners, decorations, signage and flags
  • Remove snow (using a shovel &/or snow blower) from the loading docks and sidewalks around both buildings
  • Work on the loading dock performing shipping and receiving services and maintaining the loading docks
  • Assist with move-in and move-out of bands and tradeshow companies
  • Perform pin spot light adjustments
  • Place and remove items on storage platforms
  • Assist the Building Operators and Electrician
  • Attend pre-convention and other meetings as required
  • Maintain forklifts and scissor lifts
  • Assist other departments
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Assets

  • 3-5 years of building maintenance experience along with previous shipping and receiving experience working on a loading dock
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, occupational health and safety, rigging regulations, asbestos awareness guidelines, and fall protection equipment procedures
  • Knowledge and experience working with and maintaining carpentry tools and equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Forklift and scissor lift operation experience and certification;Previous experience working with rigging equipment specifications is preferred
  • Team player who is comfortable working in a fast paced changing environment under tight time deadlines
  • Customer service focused with strong interpersonal, communication, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift heavy weight and be comfortable working with heights from ladders and on the scissor lift
  • Computer experience using Microsoft Office and an event management system would be a definite asset
  • Availability to work shift work and weekends is a must
