The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre hosts conventions, tradeshows and meetings for national, international and local groups. We are currently looking to fill a Marketing + Communications Coordinator position for a one-year term.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing + Communications, this position is responsible for aiding in the development and implementation of all marketing, communications, media and public relations strategies, which will assist the organization to meet its business objectives.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the management of the communications, marketing, media and public relations strategies, budget and planning
  • Analyzing marketing opportunities and promotional requirements needed to support sales and marketing activities in key markets
  • Aiding in promoting brand initiatives consistent with corporate business goals and objectives;determining target markets and their various characteristics, aiming to broaden the appeal of our brand
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on competitor activities and making recommendations based on findings/opportunities discovered
  • Providing editing services to ensure all communications are appropriate (both in grammar and content)
  • Developing content for articles, newsletters, news releases, advertorials and social media; developing, managing and maintaining all online communication which will include websites and online social media
  • Researching and assisting in the development of communication tools
  • Ensuring the brand, image and messaging in all corporate and marketing communications is consistent, accurate and distributed according to an appropriate timeline
  • Daily interaction with agencies to monitor project development
  • Ensuring information requests from media are forwarded to the appropriate individual for a response in a timely manner
  • Maintaining a current media contact database
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and providing accurate and timely information to same
  • Communicating and participating with industry partners as needed for joint marketing activities
  • Assisting with creating awareness within the Calgary community
  • Managing special projects as assigned

Experience and Assets:

  • Possess a Communications Degree with a minimum of 1-2 years related experience
  • Must be able to think strategically, be proactive, act with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy and have the ability to work in a fast-paced customer service focused environment
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills combined with strong writing and copy-editing skills and a working knowledge of graphic design and print production
  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving skills, collaborative decision making and analytical skills;execute strong organizational and project management skills to meet time sensitive deadlines
  • Have an understanding of content marketing strategy
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to shift priorities and adapt to changes to meet organizational and department requirements
  • Strong  presentation, creative, marketing, public relations talents are also important in this position
  • Social media savvy and highly proficient with Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign
  • Previous experience in the tourism industry would be a definite asset
  • Ability to work flexible and overtime hours as required
