Meetings and Conventions Calgary (MCC), a division of the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, in conjunction with the Calgary Hotel Association, is responsible for assisting all hotels, event venues and hospitality related services involved in attracting meetings, conventions and incentive travel (MC+IT) business to the City of Calgary. We are currently seeking an individual to join our team in the role of:
Director, Destination Sales and Marketing – MC&IT
Reporting to the General Manager, Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, this position is responsible for managing the destination sales and marketing to attract new meeting, convention and incentive travel (MC&IT) business, and to foster economic vitality within Calgary, by promoting the City and area as a prime destination of choice for MC&IT business. The primary focus of this division is to pursue new leads in the MC&IT market.
Individuals applying for this position will have a post-secondary education in a related field with at least 10 years sales and marketing experience preferably in the tourism industry, at least 5 of which is in a management/leadership capacity; strong understanding of the sales and marketing process, in particular, understanding the dedication necessary to close and/or promote opportunities; superior ability to manage stakeholder relationships; ability to set and meet deadlines; possess a strong strategic sense and create synergistic opportunities for partners; maintain strong initiative and possess superior leadership skills; committed to excellence and innovation in the workplace and motivates and encourages others to achieve personal excellence; ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose; ability to work in a multi-disciplined, high-energy environment; have an honest, open and consistent approach to working with others with excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels and possess highly polished presentation skills; a progressive forward thinker capable of making value-added contributions; employs an entrepreneurial out-of-the-box approach; ability to develop a high functioning team; highly collaborative yet decisive management style that takes a strategic approach to business; is a highly proficient problem-solver that seeks to develop solutions to meet today and tomorrow’s business problems; and has the ability to travel and work flexible and overtime hours as required.
