Reporting to the Director, Public Relations & Media, the Media Specialist, Canada, is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and tactics to leverage regional and national media amplifying marketing campaigns and sharing Alberta tourism stories with millions of potential travelers, ultimately helping to drive visitation to Alberta. Developing and fostering working relationships with internal stakeholders, industry partners, Destination Marketing Organizations and tourism operators are key components to success. With a concentration in regional outreach, this role works in consultation with the Industry Relations team to support industry with strategy development and tactical execution of media relations programs. In consultation with the Canada marketing team, this role is also responsible for managing and developing media outreach and events to support the launch of marketing campaigns.
As Media Specialist, Canada you understand the importance of proactive and reactive media relations, press trip development and logistics to ensure media’s editorial needs are met. Your experience in media-related writing, story pitching, social media outreach, media visit support, media recruitment and outreach, story ideas development, and your well-established relationships with regional and national media will enhance the delivery of Travel Alberta’s key messages in Canada. Your attention to detail will ensure that your working budget is accurate and up to date for media visits, events and special projects. Your superior communication and interpersonal skills, together with your ability to act with conviction will allow you to establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with business units, industry partners and media. You have demonstrated problem solving abilities and possess a proven ability to manage conflicting deadlines and prioritize initiatives within politically sensitive situations. You are also able to work both independently and in a team-orientated work environment.
Your degree in Public Relations, Media, Communications, Tourism, Business or related field is complemented with five years of relevant experience in the tourism industry or relevant Media role. Your dedication and passion in experiential tourism has taken your career to this point. Now, it is time to advance to a new level by stepping into Travel Alberta’s exciting working environment.
This is a 14-month term position. Start date: May 1, 2013.
Some travel is required. Some overtime is required. Some evening and weekend work is required. Valid driver’s license
Classification: Specialist 3, Salary Range: $65,496 - $85,176 Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Employment Status: 14-month term position. This position is based in the Calgary office.
