In this role, you will be responsible for the development, execution and management of internal and external communication activities that align with Banff & Lake Louise Tourism’s growth strategy, business and marketing plans. This position will support BLLT’s corporate brand by ensuring relevant, accurate, helpful and consistent storytelling.

What you’ll be responsible for:

As a key role on the Consumer Marketing team, and a leader for the Social Media Manager, Content Manager and Communications Coordinator, this role guides the development and execution of all communications, reputation management, PR, media and social media as it relates to the organization’s business plan and marketing strategies, ultimately encouraging greater traveler demand of Banff and Lake Louise. The ability to lead, connect and facilitate within Consumer Marketing and across the organization is critical, as is managing relationships with partner organizations.

Knowledge and People Leadership
  • Provide leadership, management and administration to the Social Media Manager, Content Manager, and Media Coordinator.
  • Develop multi-channel corporate communication plans, tactics and activities that support BLLT’s business and marketing plans.
  • Develop and manage media activities, both proactive and reactive.
  • Manage all Social Media Channels and measurements.
  • Work with digital, print, and broadcast media to fact-check, provide assets, and coordinate BLLT director/CEO interviews as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a corporate communications dashboard and derive insights for constant progress.
  • Government, Member Relations and partnerships: Work together with external stakeholders such as Banff National Park, Town of Banff and BLLT members’ communications teams strategically on communications initiatives.
Content Creation, Curation and Distribution
  • Develop and maintain a strategic communications editorial plan and calendar.
  • Create, curate, share and manage tourism-related content and information both internally and externally through BLLT’s owned and earned channels.
  • Support industry participation in BLLT programs and services to strengthen BLLT’s competitive position.
  • Media monitoring – using Trendkite, measure, monitor and report on impact and quality of coverage, to create a PR/Media strategy that is based on metrics.
  • Prepares and formats Board meeting reports as required.
Media Relations and Brand Stewardship
  • Reputation management, manage efforts in building and influencing perception of the destination and responding appropriately to positive as well as negative press, reviews and perception.
  • Manage corporate media relations, including writing key messages and media releases, pitching and responding to media requests in line with BLLT content calendar and marketing initiatives
  • Use Simpleview (CRM) on a daily basis to track and report media visits with the organization and Consumer Marketing team
  • Manage ongoing media training and development of internal spokespeople.
  • Follow current events, always looking for a story opportunity.
  • Steward of the corporate brand, upholding the credibility and accountability of the organization.
  • Crisis Communications, ensure that customers, members and stakeholders receive regular and timely information on the crisis, as it relates to our destination, in order to make informed decisions. Ensure that key messaging is consistent and timely, and to engage industry stakeholders in dialogue and actions to deal with immediate or potential impacts.
  • Research and target key media and social media influencer outreach with customized pitches that align with overall marketing, communications and editorial calendar
  • Plan and deliver media visits, including developing itineraries that show off our destination, making travel arrangements and hosting media during their visit
  • Provides guidance to the Business Development Managers to ensure the consistent and effective implementation of media communications in their respective markets.
  • Develops and executes Social Media strategies with Social Media Manager
  • Manages the media budget
Project Management
  • Manage the production of corporate communication projects and publications including e-newsletters, strategy documents, presentations, speeches, reports and brochures.
  • Research, analyze, and report relevant communication, business, and industry information to support strategic decision making.
  • Monitor and report on corporate communication activities, objectives and accomplishments.
  • Work in partnership with corporate agencies and contractors to deliver on strategic initiatives.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A degree/diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field with a minimum five years of experience.
  • Strong people leadership, organizational, interpersonal and consultative skills.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications plans with key metrics for measuring success.
  • Superior writing and message development skills for various media and multiple stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Proven ability to develop, articulate and gain support for organizational priorities and strategies.
  • Candidate must have a proven track record of working under pressure in complex situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and community relations skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills in developing and interpreting reports.
  • Technically proficient and comfortable with using or learning a variety of computer applications.
  • Must be innovative and adaptable, able to provide solutions and advice to others
  • Membership in IABC and CPRS considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the tourism industry considered an asset
  • Bilingualism considered an asset
  • CURRENT RESIDENTS OF BANFF AND SURROUNDING AREAS WILL BE GIVEN PREFERENCE. AT MINIMUM, APPLICANTS MUST BE LEGALLY ENTITLED TO WORK IN CANADA AND WILLING TO RELOCATE TO THE AREA TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
