We are looking for an original and outgoing individual to join our Tourism division as the new Media Relations Specialist. This role serves as an important team player, contributing to the success of the team by providing support to Edmonton Tourism’s travel media, mainstream media, and event media relations projects and programming. Whether introducing Edmonton to new and emerging markets, or building on firmly established relationships, we are the connection to all of the city’s unique experiences. The Media Relations Specialist will work to coordinate media visits, develop media pitches specific to Tourism’s key internal units, and continually track media coverage. A successful mix of travel and tourism passion combined with a vivacious personality is what we are looking for! Researching exciting story ideas while developing compelling communication materials will be second nature to this individual. Having familiarity with editorial calendars and a pitching schedule, along with media marketplaces will be a great asset. This role will create a demand for our destination (#YEG) and truly be able to source stories of unique Edmonton experiences. Superb writing/editing skills and strong interpersonal and communications skills will set this individual up for success. With a keen understanding of media relations, this collaborative media lover will deliver an exceptional impression of our city.
This tenacious person must have the ability to problem solve, be a self-starter and be committed to quality! Having knowledge and experience in media relations, communications or a marketing environment will be great background. Experience in pitching journalists, and knowing our destination is key to success in this role. In addition, you will be a fantastic communicator who excels in our impactful environment and demonstrates the ability to work closely on a team that cares for one another. Knowledge of greater Edmonton’s tourism/hospitality industries, familiarity with Canadian Press writings style, and unique media relations experiences would be considered amazing assets to the team!
