Alberta Stories Director of Photography wins Best Cinematographer at the Rosies

Shaun Henning, Director of Photography on Travel Alberta’s Alberta Stories project, has won Best Cinematographer at the Alberta Film & Television Awards (Rosie Awards). His work on the Medalta Alberta Story was recognized in the non-fiction under 30 minutes category. The video documents the experience visitors can have at Medalta Potteries in the Historic Clay District of Medicine Hat.

“It has been an absolute honour to shoot these stories,” said Henning in an interview at the event. “One of the best projects I’ve worked on in my 27 years shooting.”

The Rosie Awards honour excellence in the Alberta film and TV industries and were handed out Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton. The annual gala brings together people from the Alberta film, television, and digital media industries to honour and celebrate the year’s best.

Two more Alberta Stories, Ellis Bird Farm and Mountain Biking in Hinton, were both nominated for Best Original Musical Score in the non-fiction under 30 minutes category. The full list of winners is available at rosieawards.com

The Alberta Stories initiative plays an important role in bringing Alberta's tourism brand to life. Documentary-style videos, shared from the perspective of the passionate enthusiast, showcase the true character and distinctive personalities at the core of Alberta's tourism experiences and continue to deepen the connection we have with our audiences. They are authentic accounts that showcase a great variety and diversity of Alberta activities and experiences and motivate sharing through traditional and social media channels.

The first phase of the Alberta Stories program included the development of 15 new videos with the support of many Alberta industry partners with inspiring summer story ideas. Travel Alberta is now working on completing a new set of six winter Alberta Stories.
