Tourism Calgary Annual General Meeting celebrates 2012

Tourism Calgary shared their 2012 Annual Report at their AGM on April 23. It was a year of record breaking accomplishments for Tourism Calgary and the Calgary and area tourism industry. 

Calgary welcomed 5.2 million visitors who spent an estimated $1.4 billion dollars at Calgary attractions, restaurants, hotels, shops and festivals/event. For a second straight year, Calgary led the nation’s major metropolitan centres for visitor spending growth (6.4%) and shared the lead in visitation growth (3.9%). Growth was driven by both business and leisure travel with weekend occupancy gaining 3.7 percentage points and weekday occupancy gaining 4.2 percentage points.

Tourism Calgary confirmed 44 event bids with 53,645 hotel room nights contracted, which will generate $12.9 million in visitor spending in Calgary.

Tourism Calgary also released a first-of-its-kind vision document for Calgary – Destination Calgary in the Year 2020 that provides a thorough look at where the tourism industry is today; highlights the current challenges and opportunities within the destination; outlines future known developments; and then provides key areas for action in order to achieve a collective vision.
