Travel Alberta wins Bronze at Golden City Gate Awards

Travel Alberta was presented today with bronze at the annual Golden City Gate Awards for the video ‘241 Moments in Alberta’. The Golden City Gate awards are held each year at the International Tourism Fair (ITB) in Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show. 

The video showcases ‘241 Moments in Alberta’ submitted by travellers in Alberta. All images were obtained from Instagram photos of travellers experiencing Alberta first-hand that were tagged with the hashtag #explorealberta. The result is an authentic depiction of the experiences and landscapes one will encounter on a visit to Alberta. 

“Advocacy is key to our strategy,” said Nancy Smith, Travel Alberta’s Social Media Manager. “The most authentic messages about a destination come from travellers own images, videos and stories. We leverage this content and share across our social communities to inspire potential travellers and engage in conversations with visitors to Alberta.”

Considered to be the “Oscars” by the international travel and tourism industry, the Golden City Gate awards recognize tourism marketing excellence in various categories. Winners are chosen by an international jury consisting of 45 representatives from international tourism industry organizations. The award ceremony recognizes top three entries in each category with a gold, silver or bronze award. One outstanding submission across all categories is presented with a diamond award.

Travel Alberta is no stranger to success at these awards, having received a gold award for the second video installment of Travel Alberta’s brand (remember to breathe) entitled  ‘There Is’, a gold award for Travel Alberta’s website travelalberta.com and a bronze award for the Official Alberta Travel Planner last year. The original (remember to breathe) video won the diamond award at this competition two years ago. 

Since becoming a Crown corporation in 2009, Travel Alberta has received over 40 awards for marketing and organizational excellence including gold at the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards, gold at the HSMAI Adrian Awards, and Marketing Campaign of the Year from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC).
