Highlights from the National Tourism Indicators released by Statistics Canada
Statistics Canada recently released the highlights from the National Tourism Indicators for the second quarter of 2016 (April to June 2016). This edition highlights everything from stats on gross domestic product (GDP), total tourism expenditures in Canada, to tourism export expenditures, domestic tourism expenditures and overall tourism employment.
Some highlights include:
- Tourism contributed to 1.96% Canadian gross domestic product (GDP) over the second quarter of 2016, representing a gain of 0.09 percentage points over the same period in 2015.
- Total tourism expenditures in Canada increased by 3.3 % over the second quarter of 2016 relative to the same period in 2015 to reach %22.2 billion.
- Tourism export expenditures (+7.5%) grew at nearly four times the rate of domestic tourism expenditure (2.1%) over the second quarter of 2016 as overnight arrivals from the U.S. visitors and other international visitors expanded by 5.5% and 11.4%, respectively.
