Alberta to host GoMedia Canada in 2018

An expected crowd of more than 300 travel journalists and conference delegates comes to Calgary, Alberta in September 2018, when Travel Alberta and Tourism Calgary partner to host Destination Canada's annual GoMedia Canada, a high-profile, three-day marketing event that brings travel and lifestyle media and influencers from key markets to meet with Canadian tourism partners.

"Announcing that Calgary will host GoMedia Canada hot on the heels of Rendez-vous (RVC) Canada, which injected an estimated $4 million into the local economy while driving visitation for years to come, means more good news for our industry," said Royce Chwin, CEO, Travel Alberta. "Growing Alberta's tourism industry on a global scale is critical to reaching our goal of $10 billion in tourism revenue by 2020 – events like GoMedia ensure influencers from key global markets take notice of the authentic experiences available to travellers throughout the province."

This is the first time featuring Calgary as host city, after turns in Banff in 2007, and Edmonton in 2011. Being the host province gives Alberta a unique opportunity to fully display the destination to international and Canadian media.

"Calgarians are the ultimate hosts, and so it's only fitting that we continue to build on the positive momentum of RVC 2017 by hosting GoMedia Canada 2018," says Cindy Ady, CEO, Tourism Calgary. "Calgary's tourism industry will continue to shine as we showcase our destination and region to influencers, leading to profile, future visitation and gains for the visitor economy."

"GoMedia Canada is about showcasing world-class Canadian travel experiences through exemplary story-telling," says Jon Mamela, CMO, Destination Canada. "Travel Alberta and Tourism Calgary submitted a very strong proposal to host next year's show and we're confident that together we will deliver a great program that inspires international travellers to visit now."

This year, Nova Scotia is hosting the event and Calgary and Alberta representatives will be on hand in Halifax to host a reception in celebration of the 2018 event, providing a sneak peek at the kind of big-hearted, western hospitality people have come to expect from Alberta.
