Tourism leaders unite to launch “Go East of Edmonton” Regional Tourism Organization

With an eye on the success of the Canadian Badlands consortium which has organized and secured millions of dollars for their region for Tourism product and Economic Development, a group of east central Alberta tourism operators have banded together to create this region directly above the Badlands Group.

A steering committee has been formed to create the Go East Regional Tourism Organization with Dave Humphries (Vegreville Ag Society) as Chair; Gord Snyder (Buffalo Adventures, Wainwright) as Vice-Chair and Yvonne Brown (Tofield Farmers Market/Museum) as Treasurer.

GO EAST (Growing Opportunities (in) East Alberta (for) Sustainable Tourism) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to be the driving force for innovative and collaborative tourism marketing and development that contributes to the sustainability, prosperity and quality of life for tourism operators and communities East of Edmonton and across East Central Alberta. The region is currently based on Highway 13 up to Highway 28 between Edmonton and the Saskatchewan border.

It is the region’s first Tourism Industry led association with dedicated and experienced individuals engaged in Alberta’s Tourism Industry. The group includes businesses, attractions, non-profit organizations and community tourism professionals who are advocating and making decisions in the best interests of tourism operators for the region. It has more experience, ability and capacity to provide the marketing programs, product development and resources to create an enabling environment for the tourism industry to grow.

Watch for the GO EAST of Edmonton 2013 Travel Guide: previously named the official East Central Alberta (Kalyna) Guide, published by Tourism Solutions for the past 15 years, will be rebranded to GO EAST of Edmonton. Beyond the new name, other exciting changes are expected.

GO East RTO is excited to work with communities and businesses along with Travel Alberta on this brand new initiative by offering a variety of new and much needed low cost effective tourism marketing, development and support programs.
