Travel Alberta video surpasses two million views on YouTube

Travellers from around the globe have viewed Travel Alberta’s three-minute (remember to breathe) video compilation of Alberta tourism experiences more than two million times on YouTube.com.

“This has become one of the world’s most viewed tourism videos and is a crucial part of Travel Alberta’s strategy to increase tourism revenues for Alberta,” says Bruce Okabe, Travel Alberta’s Chief Executive Officer. “Exceeding two million views on YouTube is another significant milestone for our brand and is further evidence that (remember to breathe) resonates with travellers. It helps us stand out in a very competitive marketplace.”

This milestone follows many international accolades for this video, including the equivalent of the tourism industry’s “Oscar” by being named the best tourism video in the world in 2012 at the world’s largest tourism trade show, the International Tourism Fair in Berlin, Germany.

“Our brand videos take viewers on a journey and are meant to trigger the desire to travel to Alberta by depicting human moments that connect at an emotional level,” explains Royce Chwin, Travel Alberta’s Chief Marketing Officer. “You know that you have made that emotional connection when people take the time to comment, like and share your message.”

Travel Alberta’s social media presence, brand and videos have grown significantly in the past few years to include YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These social media sites help to share stories about Alberta tourism experiences, encouraging interest in vacations to the province, and ultimately creating leads to Alberta’s tourism industry. Through social media we have a vibrant community of people passionate about Alberta, giving us the opportunity to engage with travellers before, during and after their vacations.

There have been more than three million views on Travel Alberta’s YouTube channel, which includes a collection of other epic videos and Alberta Stories. Having a variety of content on YouTube is critical in keeping fans and followers engaged with Alberta’s experiences.

Tourism is big business in Alberta, employing 139,000 Albertans and contributing more than $7.8 billion to the provincial economy annually.
