Travel Alberta wins bronze at CMA Awards

Travel Alberta’s Dino in L.A. campaign received a bronze award at the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) Awards in Toronto on Friday. The CMA Awards recognize top marketers in Canada for excellence in marketing across a variety of marketing disciplines and industry sectors.

“Being recognized with this award signifies the level of excellence in marketing Travel Alberta has achieved,” said Royce Chwin, Chief Marketing Officer at Travel Alberta. “We are constantly looking for innovative ways to inspire travellers to visit Alberta.”

Dino in L.A., a stunt involving the bones of a full size dinosaur on a beach in Santa Monica, won in the experiential and innovative media category. Created by Venture Communications, the stunt was an opportunity to engage Californians and promote the dinosaur experience visitors can have in Alberta. While a school group helped uncover a replica of an Albertosaurus, one of the Royal Tyrrell Museum’s top Palaeontologists, Francois Therrien was on hand to oversee the day’s activities and to answer questions from the incredulous spectators.

The CMA Awards Gala is one of the largest marketing awards events in Canada. The judging process is based on strategy, creative and results. A full list of CMA Award winners can be found on the CMA website.

Since April 1, 2009, Travel Alberta has earned more than 30 awards related to excellence in tourism marketing, including gold at the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards three Golden City Gate awards during ITB Berlin, platinum at the HSMAI Adrian Awards, and marketing campaign of the year from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC).
