Through the new CanExport program, the Government of Canada has announced it will provide up to $50 million to help small and medium enterprises develop and seek global export opportunities over the next 5 years. The program was announced today by the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of International Trade and the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism.
TIAC is pleased to hear of this initiative, recognizing the positive effect it could have on tourism, Canada's third largest export sector. Despite a growing travel deficit, in 2013 tourism was responsible for more than $17.2 billion in export revenue. Entering 2016, our sector's need for competitive and stable long-term funding is greater than ever. CanExport will help tourism operators and businesses position Canada competitively in key markets such as China and the United States.
