Edmonton attractions score platinum awards

Visitor info centre, Fort Edmonton Park voted favourites in Alberta

Edmonton’s Gateway Park visitor information centre and Fort Edmonton Park scored top marks in RVwest magazine’s 2011 annual reader’s choice awards, to be released in its March/April issue.

The information centre won platinum as Alberta’s favourite visitor information centre, and Fort Edmonton Park also won platinum as Alberta’s favourite historical site. In addition, Edmonton ranked silver in the category of favourite overall RV destination in Alberta.

“As the majority of visitors to greater Edmonton come from within driving distance, we are especially honoured to be recognized by RVwest magazine readers,” says Ken Fiske, vice- president of economic and tourism development at Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. “Our city’s attractions and tourist facilities are something Edmontonians can be proud of.”

Opened in 1987, the Gateway Park centre is one of Alberta’s busiest and serves 50,000 walk-in visitors and 4,000 phone queries annually. Fort Edmonton Park is Canada’s largest living history museum that features more than 70 period buildings from four historical eras on 23 hectares of land.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Edmonton has been recognized in the magazine’s awards. RVwest magazine is published six times a year and reaches 90,000 readers per issue, and is supported by a monthly e-newsletter and website.
