Alberta Culture Days Funding Now Available

Spring has arrived in Alberta and that means planning for the largest three-day provincial celebration of arts, heritage, culture, and community has begun! Communities across the province are looking to the end of September and thinking about what they are going to do this year to share their culture with Albertans.

To help communities put on spectacular events and increase Albertans’ access to culture, the Government of Alberta is once again making grant funding available for the hosting of Alberta Culture Days events. Until June 16, 2017, at 4:30 p.m., community organizations can apply for up to $10,000 to help host an event between September 29 and October 1. More information and application forms can be found at AlbertaCultureDays.ca.

“The Government of Alberta is very proud to be able to once again support communities and event planners in hosting Culture Days events this year,” said Ricardo Miranda, Alberta’s Minister of Culture and Tourism. “I encourage every community to consider hosting a celebration event at the end of September and share your unique culture with the rest of Alberta.”

10 years of celebrations

2017 marks an important milestone for Alberta Culture Days: This year is the 10th anniversary of celebrations! What began as a one-day celebration called Alberta Arts Days has bloomed into a three-day cultural extravaganza. Every year, a growing number of Albertans are using the last weekend of September to make culture centre stage.

“We are very proud to celebrate 10 years of Alberta Culture Days this year,” Minister Miranda said. “Over the past decade we have seen Culture Days grow from humble beginnings to a provincial – and national – celebration of culture, and we expect this year to be our best yet.”

And of course, 2017 is also Canada’s 150 anniversary of Confederation. With themes of diversity, inclusion, youth, and the environment, Canada 150 is a perfect fit with Alberta Culture Days. So not only will celebrations have an Alberta focus, there will also be connections to the ongoing celebration of 150 years of Canada being the great nation it is today!
