Deadline is Looming - Nominate Your Colleague for an ALTO Today

As Canadians we know our sports and entertainment heroes. But what about those in tourism? Who, exactly, is contributing to Alberta's fourth largest industry? Who's behind the controls – who's making a difference?

The search and consequent celebration of those tourism "heroes" is what the Alto Awards program achieves.

The Alto Ambassador Award recognizes an exceptional Albertan each year who has made an outstanding contribution to our tourism industry.

Nominate one of your industry peers for the Alto Ambassador Award before June 2, 2017.

The Alto Ambassador award will be presented at the Alto Awards gala, October 23, 2017 in conjunction with the 17th annual Travel Alberta Industry Conference in Banff, October 22-24, 2017. Alto Awards in nine other categories will also be presented.

“This award honours individuals who go ‘above and beyond’ to build Alberta’s tourism industry,” says Colleen Reed, Travel Alberta’s Director, Industry Events and Engagement. “Alto Ambassadors are champions of the tourism industry who inspire us all to do great things.”

The Alto Ambassador award was created in 2001. The program is industry-driven; nominations must come from a colleague in the Alberta tourism industry. Once submissions are received and independently scored, the Ambassador is selected by the Alto Awards Committee. The Alto Awards committee is an industry committee made up of volunteers from across the province.

Ambassadors have come from all over the province and from a variety of tourism industry sectors. What they have in common is their leadership in moving Alberta’s tourism industry forward. The publicity and prestige of the award is not only a personal honour, as it also shines a spotlight on the tourism activities in the winner’s region.
