Edmonton’s Bernie Kollman Appointed as Board Chair with Travel Alberta
Travel Alberta is pleased to announce that Ms. Bernie Kollman has been appointed as Chair of Travel Alberta’s Board of Directors for another term. Kollman was initially appointed to the Board of Directors in April 2013 and first designated as Chair on December 9, 2015. She will continue to lead the award-winning tourism marketing agency through September 30, 2017.
“I am pleased that Bernie is continuing in her role of chair of the board of directors of Travel Alberta,” said Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism. “Bernie’s high level of strategic oversight and strong board governance, coupled with her understanding of world markets and dedication to serving our province, will help grow the tourism industry and help diversify the economy. I look forward to furthering our already collaborative working relationship.”
“Tourism is big business in Alberta, an $8.3 billion industry employing 127,000 jobs across the province,” said Kollman. “I am excited to continue supporting this dynamic marketing organization as we work to grow the visitor economy in all regions of Alberta.”
A passionate community champion, the University of Regina graduate also sits on the board for the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. Previously, she served as Chair of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Alberta Centre for Advanced Studies, which facilitates research collaboration between the universities in Alberta and IBM.
Kollman completed her ICD.D designation in August 2016. Granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors, the ICD.D designation is a nationally recognized program supporting directors with a lifelong commitment to excellence in the boardroom, a desire to stay current, and to be a more effective director.
“Travel Alberta is extremely excited to have Bernie's experience, global expertise and passion continue leading us forward as Board Chair,” said Royce Chwin, CEO of Travel Alberta. “Bernie is a proven leader and innovator who will help us grow Alberta’s visitor economy to more than $10 billion by 2020.”
Kollman has a long history of successful leadership and innovation having recently retired from a 30-year career with IBM. She most recently served as Vice-President for IBM’s Public Sector division in Alberta, representing one of IBM’s largest client groups in Canada. Kollman was widely recognized for both strategic leadership and innovation. Among her many past awards and recognitions, Kollman has been named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Albertans” by Alberta Venture magazine and received a “Global TV Women of Vision” award.
“I look forward to supporting Travel Alberta, in partnership with our dedicated tourism industry, to enhance tourism marketing and management resources, programs and services to make Alberta a better place to grow and succeed,” said Kollman.
