Sustainable Tourism Alto Award honours organizations making a difference

The Sustainable Tourism Alto Award recognizes organizations and businesses that meet the needs of visitors and their local communities. This may be protecting and enhancing the environment, showcasing the cultural aspects of the local community, or contributing to the local community on an ongoing basis – or a combination of all three.

Applicants are encouraged to answer questions in the following areas:

1.  Commitment – What is your organization’s commitment to, and reason for, providing a sustainable tourism product? (Remember – sustainable isn’t only about the environment)

2. Areas of Impact – Applicants can comment on areas such as Minimal Impact, Cultural Respect or Social Well-Being.

3. Economic Contribution – How does your organization contribute to the local economy?  This may be hiring local, giving back through volunteerism, or purchasing local products.

4. Communication – How do you communicate your goals to staff, guests, industry and the local community?  Are you an industry role model?
