Tourism Community of the Year Alto Award

The Tourism Community of the Year Alto award was created to acknowledge a collective and successful effort on the part of a community to work together to promote or support tourism. It is meant to recognize the hard work that communities put into developing and sharing unique and interesting programs, events, and activities as a way to revitalize visitor interest.

It could mean the bird watching boardwalk you built, the new fair or festival that’s been embraced by the public, or even the beautification of your downtown. It may be changes that you’ve made to existing facilities, services, fairs, festivals or races that had a big impact on tourism this year.

So if your municipality has done something really special, it’s time for some recognition! We invite you to submit a nomination for the Tourism Community of the Year.

The inaugural winner of this award in 2012 was Banff Lake Louise Tourism / Town of Banff for their SnowDays Winter festival. This festival brought together a group of 30 community industry partners in the development, programming and branding of the Festival. The 2012 Festival generated an increase in destination visitation of 12%.

This winning application can be viewed online.

An Alberta municipality of any size that has displayed a conspicuous commitment to tourism development, initiatives or services in the preceding year is eligible.
