Methods of Payment

In 2015, Chinese travellers spent over $800 million in Canada. Union Pay and Alipay are the main banking cards used by the Chinese and allowing Chinese travellers to use these payment methods at your business can help to increase sales. Translating Important Information

China has one of the largest English speaking populations in the world but Chinese travellers prefer communication in Chinese regardless of their level of English. Translating key information about your business or destination is an important step toward providing remarkable service. Here are samples of the types of information you should consider translating:

  • Pages on your menu along with images of your most popular dishes
  • Key pages on your website
  • A welcome letter or brief introduction to your hotel, attraction, or business
  • Safety information
  • Tourism experiences and things to do in your area

The official Alberta Travel Planner and a map of Alberta are available in Mandarin. The Travel Planner can be accessed on the bottom of every page of Travel Alberta’s Chinese website  or download a pdf of the Travel Planner and the map below.

Maps and Travel Planners are distributed in Alberta through many Visitor Information Centres and are available at the Calgary International Airport. Maps are also available through the Calgary Downtown Association kiosk on Stephen Avenue.

Tour Companies

Prior to Canada receiving Approved Destination Status in 2010, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) introduced the Canada-China Inbound Tour Operator Accreditation Program to meet the requirements of the Chinese and Canadian governments. The program is now the Canada-China Inbound Tour Operator Registration Program. A number of Alberta-based tour operators are registered ITOs.
