As a Group Sales Manager at the Ramada Plaza Calgary Downtown, you are responsible for actively soliciting new business and responding to inquiries with the intention of confirming profitable group business, achieving annual sales goals, finalizing requirements of confirmed bookings and satisfying client’s needs.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Managing Sales Activities
  • Handle and Respond in a timely manner to incoming group/catering/transient inquiries that are within predefined Group Sales parameters or refer to proper Sales Manager
  • Work with customers to align preferences with brand needs and actively up-sells each business opportunity to maximize revenues and drive customer loyalty
  • Verify that business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for quality service delivery
  • Maintain customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience
  • Demonstrate excellent selling skills, strong communication skills, and a detailed understanding of property operations, food and beverage, and planning
  • Work collaboratively with other sales channels (e.g., Area Sales, on-property resources) to verify sales efforts are coordinated, complementary, and not duplicative
  • Understand the overall market (e.g., competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand) and how to feature benefits against them
  • Verifies that business booked is within hotel parameters
  • Close the best opportunities based on market conditions and individual property needs
  • Execute operational aspects of business confirmed (e.g., generating proposal, writing contract, customer correspondence)
  • Perform creative, professional and effective site inspection tours to prospective clients
  • Transfer accurate, complete, and timely information to property in accordance with brand standards
  • Provide input for the weekly and monthly forecast
  • Understand and actively utilizes company marketing initiative/incentives to close on business
  • Implement process improvements and best practices
  • Effectively leverage other Group Sales resources to achieve personal and team related revenue goals and comfortably entertain appropriate clients
  • Plan and/or attend and/or participate in meetings with hotel staff as well as pre-convention meetings with groups
  • Possibility of business travel to represent professionally the hotel in the intent to convert and/or uncover sales leads
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, to meet business needs like competitive analysis and reader board shops
Building Successful Relationships
  • Establish coordinated sales efforts that are complementary and not duplicative
  • Drive customer loyalty through excellent customer service throughout the sales process
  • Serve the customer by understanding their needs and recommend appropriate features and benefits that best meet their needs
  • Build and strengthen relationships with existing and new customers to enable future/repeat bookings
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish clear expectations for customers and properties throughout the sales process
  • Effectively resolve guest issues that arise as a result of the sales process
  • Bring issues to the attention of the leadership team as appropriate

  • High School diploma and previous training in sales & catering services considered an asset.
  • 3 - 5 years experience within the hospitality industry with experience in sales, meeting or event planning. Experience in Sales & Catering system, and hotel PMS system considered an asset. Computer skills including: Microsoft Word, Excel, Opera PMS, Opera Sales & Catering, and/or related catering/sales program.
