Position Summary

The manager, event development will be responsible for providing an exceptional level of guest service while functioning as a strategic business leader for the Business Development team.

This position oversees the development and implementation of departmental strategies while focusing on growing event revenues and maximizing the financial performance of the department. This position has overall responsibility for executing all aspects of event management from sales to event operations.


  • Engaging both your internal team of employees and the leaders throughout the organization, you are someone who will:
  • Generate and design new service concepts improving company offerings while ensuring alignment with city and organizational environmental and safety procedures.
  • Oversee and manage the Event Management department, including reporting and completing operational department requirements while conducting active problem solving. 
  • Lead a team of event professionals by engaging and coaching team members to understand client goals and objectives to ensure they are well versed in every aspect of their assigned event. This includes hiring, training and performance management. 
  • Maintain high levels of guest experience excellence by developing process excellence programs and ensuring business metrics are measured, evaluated and communicated with the team. This will involve gathering guest feedback throughout the event planning process to evaluate service levels and communicating the findings and results to our internal teams, which will create a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage event budgets, grow event profitability, and maximize financial performance of the department.


  • The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with the ability to act on forward thinking ideas, identify opportunities for talent development and successfully deliver an elevated guest service experience. They will come with the following: 
  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as business development or event management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of convention management experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years in an event management leadership role.
  • Proven success delivering budgetary goals with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Broad understanding of guest experience and service recovery.
  • Accounting and budget management skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking.
  • The ability to take abstract client concepts and design engaging event experiences to meet the goals and objectives.
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
