Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist nurtures organizational excellence by leading and fulfilling objectives of the People Strategy to provide a culture and work environment that emphasizes empowerment, excellence, collaboration, and innovation. The Human Resources Generalist provides proactive support in people administration to all Team Members at Travel Alberta in order to be informed of Team Members engagement and deliver business results.

Reporting to the Manager, People & Performance, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the following:

  • Supports Travel Alberta’s People Strategy to ensure all elements of a high performing team best propels achievement of the Business Strategy.
  • Administers all recruitment efforts, in partnership with the hiring manager.
  • Administers the arrivals & departures process for Travel Alberta.
  • Processes semi-monthly payroll for 80+ team members.
  • Administers Team Members’ absence and wellness program.
  • Prepares T4’s, ROE’s, Payroll, WCB, and applicable year-end reports.
  • Completes the administration of the defined benefit pension program and calculates pension adjustments at year end.
  • Completes the administration of the benefits program through SunLife Financial and facilitates Flexible Spending Account.
  • Completes the administration of Travel Alberta’s Absence & Wellness program.
  • Prepares the reconciliation of the HR budget for approval.
  • Prepares the reconciliation of the Payroll budget for approval. 
  • Completes the administration of the general orientation and on-boarding program for all new Team Members.
  • Completes the administration of the learning and development program and facilitates appropriate training opportunities.
  • Administers the application of occupational health and safety practices to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Supports the Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy through participation as a Health & Safety member to foster a safe work environment.
  • Administers and prepares Travel Alberta’s award applications.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable legislation; i.e. Public Service Employee Relations Act, Alberta Employment Standards Code, Alberta Human Rights Act, FOIP Act, etc.
Additional Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in business management or related field with a focus in human resources.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or in progress.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a Human Resources’ payroll, administration or generalist role.
  • Certified Payroll Designation or certification is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of human resources’ theories, concepts, and practices is critical.
  • Experience working with ADP platforms (WorkForce Now, Pay@Work, People@Work, Ezlabor, Total Access).
  • Strong understanding of benefit administration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of defined benefit pension administration and programs.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to make timely decisions.
  • Well organized and ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of payroll, compensation, recruitment, performance management, health and safety, employee relations, and learning and development.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards Act and legislation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient in oral and written communication.
  • Strong research, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Must understand and interpret policies and procedures, collective agreements, and labour and employment legislation.
  • Technically proficient and comfortable with using or learning a variety of computer applications.
