Sunshine Village is looking for a skilled Human Resources Manager to oversee all aspects of Human Resources practices and processes. The HR Manager will support business needs and ensure the proper implementation of company strategy and objectives. The goal is to promote corporate values and enable business success through an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention, development, and high performance including areas of health and safety and the development of the Human Resources department. The Human Resources Manager coordinates the implementation of people-related services, policies, and programs through Human Resources staff; reports to the CFO; and assists and advises company managers and supervisors about Human Resources issues. This position has 4 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the recruitment process.
  • Oversee the implementation of HR programs, identify opportunities for improvement and resolve problems.
  • Oversee and manage the work of HR staff including on/off-boarding, recruiting, training, development, and performance management.
  • Encourage the ongoing development of the Human Resources staff. Create a positive working environment.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Develop and monitor an annual budget that includes HR services, employee recognition, and company event support.
  • Conduct a continuing study of all HR policies, programs, and practices, and keep management informed of new developments.
  • Utilize the HRIS system to eliminate administrative tasks, empower employees, and meet the other needs of the organization.
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable HR federal and provincial requirements, conduct investigations, and maintain records.
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues.
  • Lead the development of department goals, objectives, and systems. Provide leadership for Human Resources strategic planning.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of the Human Resources sections of the company website (recruitment, culture, and company information), the Intranet, newsletters, etc.
  • Coordinate all Human Resources training programs, and assign the authority/responsibility of resources and managers within those programs. 
  • Provide necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports.

The Person

  • Proven working experience as an HR manager with minimum 5 years’ senior leadership experience.
  • Degree or diploma, ideally in human resources and/or tourism/hospitality. 
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases; Ceridian DayForce HCM knowledge an asset.
  • Understanding and experience with human resources metrics.
  • Generalist, with strengths in recruiting and employee relations.
  • Ability to quickly build credibility and mutual respect.
  • Ability to use knowledge and influence to achieve corporate goals and objectives.
  • Active listening, good negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company from executives to seasonal staff.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices and relevant legislation.
  • Positive attitude, people-oriented and solutions-focused.
  • Create/contribute to a positive, “fun” culture.
  • Previous experience in hospitality/tourism/travel industry in an “outdoors” oriented setting desirable.
  • Passion for winter sports and recreation would be an asset. 
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible days/hours.
