Tourism Camrose is seeking a vibrant, experienced tourism leader with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills to fill the role of Executive Director.

Position profile 
Tourism Camrose is a not-for-profit society and the Destination Marketing Organization for Camrose and Region. Tourism Camrose’s primary mandate is to attract visitors, generate significant economic benefits and provide leadership to the regional tourism sector.

Tourism Camrose’s key drivers include: being recognized as the leading voice and advocate for tourism in Camrose and Region; assuring active communication and collaboration between Tourism Camrose and tourism operators; defining and actively targeting Camrose and Region’s “Best Customers”; and working closely with other Alberta DMOs to increase tourism visits and improve visitor experiences.

Position overview
Tourism Camrose is seeking a vibrant, experienced tourism leader to fulfill the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director reports to a volunteer Board of Directors and is part-time, based on 32 flexible hours per week. Currently, the Executive Director is the only employee of the organization.

Key roles and activities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Camrose and Region tourism operators and stakeholders
  • Oversee the administration of Tourism Camrose, including working with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper to provide monthly financial reporting
  • Utilize tourism industry tools to identify and define “Best Customers”
  • Liaise with industry partners, stakeholders and regional communities to develop events, new tourism products, tours and destination opportunities
  • Produce and commission tourism information, including art work, press releases and writing copy for tourism guides/newsletters
  • Develop and maintain e-tourism platforms, including websites, social media campaigns and databases
  • Write and present reports
  • Plan and write funding applications
  • Make presentations and handle media enquiries
  • Set up and attend exhibitions
  • Work within a budget
  • Additional tasks as requested by the Board of Directors 
Strategic aspects of the work include but are not limited to:
  • Collaborate with local operators, partners, funders and stakeholders 
  • Encourage relationship building
  • Commission, produce and implement tourism strategies and economic impact studies
  • Advocate for the tourism industry with the industry and government 
  • Create and coordinate marketing campaigns
  • Provide a range of information on local resources and facilities
  • Support the local tourism industry through facilitating promotional opportunities
  • Collaborate and participate in industry training courses to encourage networking and economic growth within the tourism industry
The successful applicant will have a minimum of 3-5 years experience working in a demanding, progressively responsible position within a tourism environment. An industry related diploma or degree in the following areas would be an asset:
  • Tourism management
  • Marketing
  • Business/management 
  • Social media/website 
  • Urban/rural regeneration
  • Journalism 
Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s licence are required.

Working Conditions
  • Executive Director will be required to work occasional evening and weekends subject to a flexible 32 hour work week 
  • Job may be stressful when working to tight deadlines, attending meetings and dealing directly with members of the public
