Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director, Finance, the Specialist, Accounts Payable directly supports the Finance team in the processing and payment of supplier invoices and expense claims; ensure accuracy of processing within approved purchase orders and contracts; ensure allocation to the proper projects general ledger accounts; reconcile vendor statements; process and reconcile team member credit card purchases and in-market reps expense claims. Perform other related general accounting functions as required.

Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Sets up and manage vendor information and standard payment terms
  • Process supplier invoices
  • Prepare/process/reconcile weekly, monthly payments
  • Assist other business units and vendors with accounts payable queries
  • Manage the reconciliation and processing of the monthly Corporate Credit card statement and Employee expense claims
  • Manage the reconciliation and processing of in-market reps expense claims
  • General accounting and other finance related duties
  • Provide back-up and support to the Finance team on administration and other finance related duties
  • Special Projects and Duties as required
  • Able to interpret, obtain, select, analyze, and explain information to resolve complex issues efficiently and effectively.
  • While using sound accounting judgment, being able to act in compliance with complex policies and procedures in order to provide a high quality financial information and meet the needs of stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Ensure data accuracy and timely processing and reporting
  • Be innovative and problem solving oriented 
  • Find more efficient and effective ways of working within a process based environment
  • Planning, reporting and analyzing effectively, focusing on historical, current and future trends
  • Use reason, logic and innovation to present and explain data and procedures according to audience.
  • Support accounting processes/policies and provide assistance to other business units and vendors concerning accounts payable function
  • Ability to influence AP/other accounting related decision making and help resolve issues
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge is acquired through an Accounting, Business, Administration or related program and minimum two years of professional accounting diploma or bachelor degree
  • Working towards an Accounting Designation (CPA) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian GAAP accounting theory, concepts, practices and principles are critical
  • Knowledge of full cycle accounting in order to run comprehensive accounting reports involving accounts payable and other financial reports
  • Prior experience in full cycle of Accounts Payable is a must
  • Prior experience with admin/accounting processes is critical
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills are critical to work successfully in a Finance department
  • Strong creative and analytical skills are important in developing and interpreting reports
  • Ability to understand technical manuals and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job, including experience in working with different accounting software applications
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex accounting policies and procedures and financial documents
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient in oral and written communication 
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, analyse and interpret data
  • Experience working with internal and external partners is beneficial
  • Experience with the Tourism Industry is beneficial
  • Experience with Government policies and procedures is beneficial
  • Minimum of two years of administrative and accounting experience in a corporate environment

This position is based in Calgary, Alberta
Employment status: Full Time
Salary: $60,216 - $78,288 per annum
