Nature of the Organization 

Beakerhead Creative Society is the organizing team at the heart of an annual program that culminates in a five-day spectacle bringing together the arts and engineering sectors to build, engage, compete and exhibit interactive works of art, engineered creativity and entertainment. The society’s activities at the provincial, national and international level are coordinated by a core secretariat located in Calgary, Alberta. Beakerhead transforms Calgary – with contests, mechanical sculptures, interactive street art, feats of engineering, larger-than-life theatre and spectacular performances. Beakerhead Creative Society is a registered Canadian charity. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

As ​Marketing Coordinator​, you will have the unique opportunity to coordinate and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications plan that is creative and far-reaching. This position plays a key role in the marketing support required for both the annual Beakerhead spectacle as well as year-round activities. This position will report to the Marketing Manager, who provides expert guidance on strategic planning, community engagement through social media, media relations, and metrics and evaluation. 
This is a contract role for a results-oriented high achiever with a positive and enthusiastic attitude, and someone who understands the brand and public voice of Beakerhead. It has the potential to be extended as a permanent position, pending funding. 
This position will:
● Implement marketing and communications plans covering all events leading up to, over and wrapping up the September spectacle, including fundraising campaigns, and special projects
● Coordinate, write and implement website and social media platform content
● Act as the lead voice on year-round social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) and provide analysis on campaigns surrounding each of these platforms
● Write and format promotional materials using Mailchimp and other tools
● Under the guidance of the Marketing Manager, liaise as required with agencies involved with creative development and distribution of the marketing program, including strategic planners, research and evaluation team, public relations agency, social media manager, web support team, graphic designers, and others as required
● Support the development of Beakerhead marketing collateral, including pieces and publications for tourism marketing partners, campaign elements, program guides, maps calendars
● Coordinate event signage content and creation
● Provide marketing support for Beakerhead fund development and program development as required
● Coordinate and disseminate materials
● Assist in supporting the Social Media, Photography and Video Volunteer Crews 

Qualifications/Expertise Required
The position requires strong writing skills and excellent project coordination skills. This position requires the confidence to be the voice of Beakerhead, and collaborate with a variety of communities. The role requires attention to detail and a passion for original and creative content, in a fast-paced high volume environment. As with all Beakerhead roles, ease of working on cloud-based shared platforms such as Dropbox and Google Apps is required. 
Specific expertise includes:
• Strong writing skills, well versed in managing social media protocols and platforms
• Minimum five years of experience on social media platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate high volume marketing and communications materials, with attention to detail and quality
• A proven track record of exceptional performance
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to plan and implement with talent, creativity and accuracy
• Ability to work within a fast paced, results oriented environment

Accountabilities include effectively representing Beakerhead through interaction with key community stakeholders and strengthening the organization’s everyday value and presence among the full spectrum of collaborators, local, national and international. Beakerhead will be presented in a creative, energetic and professional manner. The Marketing Coordinator will build, nurture and grow relationships that help to build the world’s most talked about and respected annual creative engineering spectacle.  
This position is a contract role (five months - June to Oct) based on an annual salary of $60,000. Due to the cyclical nature of Beakerhead, with periods of intense work and tight deadlines, evening hours may be required. A period of intense work can be expected in the first weeks of September.
