Tourism Partners Win Big for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Spirit at the Growing Rural Tourism Conference

Hosted by the Camrose Regional Exhibition as part of its annual Growing Rural Tourism Conference, the Entrepreneurship Challenge was developed to support tourism operators with developing new products and experiences to help grow their businesses and rural tourism in Alberta. In front of over 200 tourism colleagues, the Challenge celebrated its first Top 3 wins this week by recognizing Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm as a provincial Reserve Champion for their innovative new tourism product ideas.

“Innovation and entrepreneurial spirit are key ingredients to growing tourism in Alberta,” said Maureen Kubinec, Minister of Culture and Tourism. “I am truly impressed by the leadership and creativity of the Entrepreneurship Challenge winners and I look forward to seeing their projects come to life.”

Their new 'Taste Adventures' culinary tourism initiative in partnership with RGE RD Restaurant is a winner! Tam and her team will be adding a great new experience for tourists visiting the Edmonton Region” Wynn McLean, Travel Alberta Team – Vice President, Community Relations.

“For an inaugural competition, we were so excited to see the amount of great proposals that were submitted,” says Jennifer Filip, Chair of the GRT Conference. She added, “What will be exciting for next year’s conference is to have the winners return to share first hand with industry colleagues the progress made in developing their rural tourism product or experience. I look forward to the momentum of this program continuing to help move the needle of growing rural tourism.”

Top Three in Alberta
  • Champion – Aspen Crossing. $10,000, plus 1 year of industry expert mentorship
  • Reserve Champion – Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm $6,000, plus 1 year of industry expert mentorship
  • 3rd place: Flying Cross Ranch $4,000, plus 1 year of industry expert mentorship

Prize money will be used for product development services, marketing materials or expenses, market research, human resources directly related to the new product or experience, and relevant training.
