2014 Growing Rural Tourism Conference

Join rural Alberta’s community leaders and small business owners March 3 – 5, 2014 at the Camrose Regional Exhibition for the 14th Annual Growing Rural Tourism Conference.

This year’s conference includes inspiring keynote presentations, concurrent sessions, delicious meals, an evening Gala and presentation of the Rural Tourism Champion Award, entertainment, and an opportunity to network with fellow tourism industry representatives and operators. Both educational and entertaining, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

Rural communities in Alberta and across Canada have begun looking towards tourism as a viable industry to diversify their local economies. The Growing Rural Tourism Conference brings together groups who have embraced innovative tourism strategies and partnerships, and those looking at how they might bring new sources of revenue and employment to their own communities.

Renowned Rural Tourism experts and participants from a broad cross-section will share successes, challenges, and ideas for future growth. Comments from last year’s participants indicated that the conference was a powerful tool in initiating strategic tourism planning.

KYLE SEXTON “Small Business Big Marketing”: This session is full of great book recommendations. Let’s discuss how today’s trends are affecting your business (and how to fix it). Hit the Refresh button on your marketing know-how and learn with folks who speak your language.

MIKE STOLTE: “The Seven Deadly Sins of Tourism: Has your Community Sinned?”: What do John Lennon’s place of death, scalpels, and soufflés all have in common? They are all part of tourism growth markets that we should be thinking about. This workshop will introduce participants to seven common mistakes communities make in tourism and introduce some creative solutions for making sound tourism decisions.

DAVE MITCHELL: “The Power of Understanding People”: Provides a better understanding of diverse communication styles. Based on Jungian psychology, it’s the perfect combination of pertinent human dynamics; laugh out loud humor and audience interaction. One of our most popular seminars!

ZANDRA BELL: “My Giant Town Monument’s Bigger Than Yours Is, Haha Hahaha!”: Don’t miss this offbeat, light hearted and uplifting look at the challenges we all face in the competitive, often convoluted world of rural tourism.  It’s a time to Shine, a time to Share, and a time to make Sure we can still put our problems into perspective.  Dare to be there!

Both educational and entertaining this is the Tourism Conference you won’t want to miss!
