Rural Tourism Entrepreneurship Challenge could Kick-Start your New Tourism Experience

Do you have a new tourism experience you have been wanting to add to your business but you just need some funds to kick-start it? The Growing Rural Tourism Entrepreneurship Challenge helps operators develop new products and experiences through a dragon’s den style competition. The first place prize is $10,000. Read the brochure for more information and the application form. The application deadline is January 15.

The Entrepreneurship Challenge is part of the 16th Annual Growing Rural Tourism Conference hosted by Camrose Regional Exhibition February 22-24, 2016.

What is this Conference About?

Rural communities in Alberta and across Canada have begun looking towards tourism as a viable industry to diversify their local economies. The Growing Rural Tourism Conference brings together groups who have embraced innovative tourism strategies and partnerships, and those looking at how they might bring new sources of revenue and employment to their own communities.

Renowned rural tourism experts and participants from a broad cross-section will share successes, challenges, and ideas for future growth. Comments from last year’s participants indicated that the conference was a powerful tool in initiating strategic tourism planning.

The conference program is now available for download on the Growing Rural Tourism website. Early bird registration ends January 22.

Awards a Big Part of the Conference

New for 2016 is the People’s Choice Award sponsored by Peavey Mart. Conference delegates will be able to vote throughout the Alberta Shows Off evening on February 22 and the People’s Choice Award winner will be announced during the awards gala on February 23.

The 9th Annual Rural Tourism Championship Award honours a person or group chosen for a strong commitment to rural tourism in their business, town, association or community. The Champion Award applications deadline is January 15.
