Rendez-vous Canada 2014 will generate sales for Alberta

Travel Alberta joined more than 1,500 international delegates at this year's Rendez-vous Canada (RVC) event in Vancouver, May 27-30.

Hosted by the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), RVC is Canada’s premier international tourism marketplace, annually bringing together international buyers and Canadian sellers of tourism products and services. International tour operators, wholesalers and packagers come to RVC seeking enticing new products, services and packages that will stand out in a crowded global marketplace.

This was a record-breaking year for RVC with 475 buyers in attendance, representing 367 international organizations from 28 countries.

Travel Alberta annually attends RVC with Alberta tourism industry partners to represent our piece of the pie. Alberta had an increased presence this year with 65 Alberta seller organizations attending (up from 57 last year). The Alberta section had an even more cohesive and branded appearance on the marketplace floor with new fabric panel pop-up displays in each seller booth. The images chosen for each of the displays reflected the region of the seller, as well as highlighting the authentic experiences and breathtaking landscapes that Alberta has to offer.

"The record number of international buyers introduced to Alberta’s tourism products at this year’s Rendez-vous Canada will translate into increased overall tourism revenue for this province in the years to come." says Wade Harper, Travel Alberta's Executive Director, International.

Travel Alberta partnered with Tourism Canmore Kananaskis as a Diamond sponsor to create a “Learn to be a Canadian Hockey Player” booth. The booth, located in the concourse outside of the marketplace floor, was a life-like hockey rink complete with branded boards and a goalie net. The participants practiced their slapshots on goal with help from ex-NHL player Jeremy Reich and the GM of the Canmore Eagles, Andrew Milne. Participants also entered to win a trip to Canmore Kananaskis by taking a photo in the penalty box and posting it to twitter with the hashtag #RVC2014.

Travel Alberta also partnered with VIA Rail, Edmonton Tourism,Banff Lake Louise Tourism, Tourism Jasper, Air North and Tourism Yukon to host an evening event. The event featured a performance from our very own Alberta Ambassador and musician behind the (remember to breathe) commercials, Wil.

RVC plays a significant role annually in driving tourism business to Alberta. The event delivers a rapid and efficient way for international buyers, who operate on tight budgets and timelines, to get face time with Alberta tourism businesses. The marketplace showcases the latest and greatest products and packages, as well as providing many opportunities for networking and building lasting business relationships.
