New consortium sets stage for welcoming meeting groups to Medicine Hat

Initiated by the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association (MHAA), the new Medicine Hat Convention Group will work alongside the City of Medicine Hat, Southlands Event Centre, Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede, Medalta, Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre, and the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce to elevate the profile of the group’s convention-friendly hotels and facilities to the lucrative meetings and convention market.

Collaboration amongst the Convention Group partners began when a need for leadership was identified by the local hotels. “We saw a significant and positive impact from the Canadian Badlands Conference, as well as the HOG Rally in July 2013,” states Leslie Squires, President of the Medicine Hat Accommodation Association. “Historically, there was no organization working to coordinate private and public groups to attract conventions to the city, and this new organization led by the MHAA looks forward to bringing in other events of this nature.”

To make it easy for meeting planners to learn about the advantages of booking a convention in Medicine Hat, a digital Convention Package has been developed, providing one-stop-shop highlights to entice bookings that produce 200 room nights or more and use at least two facilities in the city. Highlights feature the following themes: Location (central between Alberta and Saskatchewan), Exceptional Value, Sunshine & Security (great weather, great people), Sponsorship Opportunities, Authentic Culture (unique facilities, up-close experiences), Hotel Overviews, Facility Overviews, and Sample Convention Tours.
