SportBusiness Ultimate Sports City Awards

Calgary has been added to the 2014 Ultimate Sports City shortlist just days after garnering international recognition from The New York Times and The Guardian as a world-class tourism destination. This is the first time that Calgary has been shortlisted for these awards.

The Ultimate Sports Cities awards are the de facto benchmark of sports cities around the world with acknowledgement on the list influencing decisions taken by sports federations, tour organizers and multi-sport event rights holders. Calgary joins Vancouver as the only two Canadian cities recognized on the 2014 shortlist.

Thirty cities have made the cut for 2014 and will be ranked by SportBusiness’ expert judging panel, all of whom have extensive knowledge of sports events and the destinations that host them.

“We are honoured and proud to have received this level of distinction from SportBusiness International,” said Marco De Iaco, Vice President Sport and Major Events. “Being recognized as an Ultimate Sports City validates Calgary’s position as one of Canada’s top sport destinations and one of the top winter sport cities in the world.”

The final results will be announced at the SportAccord Convention in Antalya, Turkey in April and the prize of Ultimate Sports City 2014 will be presented to the winning city alongside awards for individual winners across the scoring categories.
