New Chair and Directors Appointed at Edmonton Economic Development Corporation

A new chair has been appointed to a two-year term at Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), joined by three new board members, at today’s annual general meeting.

A board member since 2008, new chair Peter Silverstone will be joined by Jagdeep Bachher, JoAnn Kirkland, and Tracey Scarlett. The three new directors have been appointed to two-year terms, replacing those whose terms have expired or who are stepping down: Laura Schuler, Peter Kiss and Bob Gomes. Henry Yip steps down from his two-year term as board chair.

Bachher is deputy chief investment officer at Alberta Investment Management Corporation, which manages a $70-billion portfolio. Kirkland is a hospitality and service veteran, and now consults for the industry. Scarlett is CEO of Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, which helps businesswomen with building businesses.

In addition to the board appointments, the City of Edmonton-owned agency released its 2011 annual report today, which discloses the year’s financial results and highlights achievements in economic development, tourism, innovation and technology advancement, and the Shaw Conference Centre.
