Entrepreneurship Challenge to award $10,000 to winning tourism project

New this year, rural tourism operators will have a chance to receive valuable feedback and kick-start their projects with the Growing Rural Tourism Entrepreneurship Challenge. Hosted by the Camrose Regional Exhibition as part of the Growing Rural Tourism Conference, the challenge will help tourism operators develop new experiences and grow their businesses. The prize for coming in first place: $10,000 and one year of mentoring from industry expert judges.

The Growing Rural Tourism Conference is an initiative of the Camrose Regional Exhibition, in partnership with Alberta Culture & Tourism, Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies, Tourism Camrose and Travel Alberta. The 15th annual conference will be held February 23 – 25, 2015.

Rural communities in Alberta and across Canada have begun looking towards tourism as a viable industry to diversify their local economies. The Growing Rural Tourism Conference brings together groups who have embraced innovative tourism strategies and partnerships, and those looking at how they might bring new sources of revenue and employment to their own communities.

Renowned rural tourism experts and participants from a broad cross-section will share successes, challenges, and ideas for future growth. Comments from last year’s participants indicated that the conference was a powerful tool in initiating strategic tourism planning.
