Alberta Strong shares stories of hope and recovery

Stories aren’t stories until they are shared. When flooding occurred across southern Alberta, residents and visitors alike turned to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to get timely updates, share stories and post photographs of their first-hand experiences. It’s in times like these when we see the true character of our people and the authenticity of our places, especially on social media.

When the hashtag #AlbertaStrong started trending, it made it easy for thousands to engage in genuine conversations about Alberta. Travel Alberta developed an Alberta Strong page on to share these real-time stories and photographs and to capture the feelings of hope and camaraderie of Albertans coming together to rebuild flood- affected areas.

The hashtag #AlbertaStrong became synonymous with the celebration of the positive actions of Albertans during the recovery and the Alberta Strong page quickly gained momentum. To date we have shared more than 5000 stories and photographs.

People and communities are pulling together and supporting each other - which is a testament to the kindness, hospitality and resiliency of Albertans. Celebrate the strength and spirit of Albertans helping their neighbours by sharing your stories of recovery on social media outlets using the hashtag #albertastrong.
