Vulcan Tourism lining up the stars for Walk of Fame

Vulcan Tourism plans to create a Walk of Fame of Star Trek alumni in Vulcan.

The Walk of Fame, similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, would include about 20 Star Trek alumni, with their pictures and signatures being placed directly into the sidewalks, said tourism co-ordinator Catherine Pooley at a recent meeting of the Vulcan and District Chamber of Commerce.

Pooley told chamber members that the stars she's talked to so far are supportive of the project.

The walk would extend down Centre Street by the Trek Station all the way to Third Avenue and would be placed on the sidewalks in front of local businesses. The idea, said Pooley, is to get tourists across the railway tracks. It would also be a unique photo opportunity for tourists, she said.

Pooley said recently she has approval from the Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation to use some leftover grant money for the project. While other funds will also be required, the money will all come from grant funding, she said.

Pooley informed chamber members that local businesses will be asked to keep their sidewalks cleared so that people can see – and take pictures by – the new tourist attraction on any given day.
