Country Inns & Suites By CarlsonSM Calgary Airport honoured with Responsible Business and President’s Awards

CALGARY (Mar. 9, 2011) – The Country Inn & Suites By CarlsonSM Calgary Airport is the recipient of the Country Inns & Suites 2010 Responsible Business Award and is one of the recipients of the Country Inns & Suites 2010 President’s Award.

The Responsible Business Award is presented to the hotel that demonstrates extraordinary commitment to Responsible Business through ethical business practices, education, communication, community involvement and environmental responsibility.

The President’s Award is presented to the properties that achieved top scores in guest satisfaction as measured by guest feedback for cleanliness and consistency in meeting (and often exceeding) the brand’s product quality standards. Steve Mogck, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Beathe-Jeanette Lunde, executive vice president, People Development, Safety and Security, and Responsible Business, Carlson, presented the awards to Leanne Shaw-Brotherston, general manager of the Country Inn & Suites Calgary Airport at Carlson’s recent Global Business Conference.

“We have always operated under the guiding principle that we need to be good corporate citizens and act in a manner that exemplifies ethical business practices, community involvement and environmental protection,” said Shaw-Brotherston. Some examples of this good corporate citizenship are:

* The hotel has achieved a Three Key rating through the Hotel Association of Canada’s Green Key program
* Beginning in August, 2010 this was the first Canadian Carlson hotel to partner with Clean the World to recycle used soap and bottled amenities
* The hotel has always used non-disposable dining ware in its breakfast room
* In 2009 a Health & Safety committee was formed with representatives from all departments. As a result, in 2010 the hotel achieved a Certificate of Recognition from the Albert Hotel Safety Association, scoring a 94% on its External Audit
