52nd Annual Tourism Calgary White Hat Award winners

On May 14, Tourism Calgary celebrated tourism excellence at the 52nd Annual Calgary White Hat Awards with a sold-out crowd of boisterous tourism and hospitality employees. More than 550 nominations were received this year and more than 450 interviews were conducted, which is a tribute to the depth and strength of our industry.

The Calgary White Hat Awards recognize the one in ten working Calgarians in the tourism and hospitality industry who deliver Calgary’s world-renowned western hospitality. Tourism contributes $1.6 billion annually in visitor spending to the local economy.

“Tonight we celebrate the thousands of people in our tourism and hospitality family who, over the year, rallied our industry, have shown themselves to be heroes and who deliver, every day, on our promise of White Hat western hospitality,” said Tourism Calgary CEO, Cindy Ady.

“The Calgary White Hat Awards celebrate the frontline staff, behind-the-scenes workers and visionary leaders who are the lifeblood of the hospitality and tourism industry,” said event organizer and Tourism Calgary Vice President, Industry Relations, Shelley Zucht-Shorter. “They are the heart and soul of our industry and the reason Calgary’s visitors enjoy remarkable experiences, share their stories and why they leave already planning to return.”

Hotel Arts, Rouge and the Shaw Charity Classic were crowned with coveted White Hat of the Year Awards at this year's celebration and the Mayor's White Hat Award was presented to Merlin Ho of the Delta Bow Valley, Downtown Calgary. In addition, the Doug Johnson Service Award was presented to Lisa McDonald of the Calgary Zoo.
