Ady to promote Alberta's tourism industry in Germany

Edmonton - March 2, 2011 ... From March 8 to 11, Tourism, Parks and Recreation Minister Cindy Ady will promote Alberta as a must-see destination at the International Tourism Bourse Berlin (ITB), a leading industry tradeshow and media marketplace attracting more than 180,000 travel trade delegates from more than 180 countries.

“This well-established event draws tourism operators and media from around the world,” said Ady.  “We will reach an influential audience with our message that Alberta is open for business and eager to welcome visitors.” In 2008, approximately 90,000 Germans spent $87 million in Alberta.  Travel Alberta’s latest Global Marketing and Sales Plan identifies Germany as one of province’s core international tourism markets.  Travel Alberta will be increasing its marketing budget for Germany by approximately 40 per cent in 2011-12 to help attract more travellers to Alberta.

“Germany is one of Alberta’s most valuable tourism markets, and we are working to strengthen our presence there,” added Ady.  “Overseas visitors typically stay longer and spend more money than domestic travellers on holiday in Alberta.  That’s why we continue to invest in key international markets like Germany to stimulate visitation.”
