Business Essentials: Sign Up for Destination Canada’s Major International Tradeshows

Can we deal you in? Destination Canada has some major international tradeshows still to come in 2015—the perfect platforms for Canadian businesses looking to increase their global footprint.

Make room on your agendas: here’s the lowdown:

  • Destination Canada’s leading international marketplace outside Canada is Showcase Canada-Asia. The Shangri-La Hotelin Shenyang, China, will be the platform again for Canadian tourism businesses seeking to make inroads into Asian markets by building relationships and clinching deals. With Canada a hot topic for Asian travellers, buyers from mainland China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, plus key fully independent travel agents from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines will be seeking out new products and packages Oct. 19-23. Destination Canada kept the show at Shenyang for a second successive year to keep costs at a reasonable level and, due to feedback from last year’s participants, added an extra half day. The educational seminars on day one include a comprehensive overview of the social media and digital environment in China, and how this contributes to marketing. Several days of pre-scheduled meetings then form the marketplace’s heart. Registration for sellers is already open, with many having already signed up. Registration for buyers opens July 13 and then attendees have several weeks (Aug.17-Sept. 28) to sort out their appointments.
  • Focus Canada-Japan is the place to be for Canadian tourism businesses looking to meet Japanese buyers this fall. Reps from destinations and experiences will highlight new products and itineraries to 70-plus Japanese travel agents and tour operators Oct. 15-16 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Osaka, Japan. Day one starts with a market update for Canadian sellers presented by Maureen Riley, Destination Canada-Japan managing director. After the subsequent networking lunch, the rest of the event is devoted to workshop sessions. Canadian sellers, divided into five groups by region, will conduct B2B meetings with Japanese buyers. Registration for Focus Canada-Japan is already open.
  • Mexico City is the hot spot for Conozca Canadá (Aug. 26-28).  Here, Canadian provincial and destination industry reps share the latest product news, special offers and industry trends with Mexican tour operators in a series of 15-minute one-to-one meetings. Informal networking events also help seal the deals. Registration for buyers, sellers and media opens June 1.
