Town of Okotoks Introduces New Tourism Branding

The Town’s new tourism brand: “Hip, Happening, Historic. Okotoks. Your Weekend Destination” has recently been launched.

“Hip, Happening, Historic. Okotoks. Your Weekend Destination” reflects a modern, contemporary and fun place to be while still respecting our historic roots and our significant daytrip visitors.

The new brand was developed to target consumers, particularly the female head of the household, a major target audience for many retail tourism shopping and dining experience decisions.

As the regional indoor field house opens and more sports tourism events are held in Okotoks & area, it is anticipated Okotoks will evolve to more of an overnight destination. Overnight visitors spend three-times more than day trip visitors in terms of their economic impact.

The Best Western Hotel, which will soon be under construction at 32nd Street and Southbank Road, will assist with that objective.

The tourism industry in the Calgary region is estimated to have revenues of $1.2 billion annually and is projected to grow to $2 billion by 2020.

The new colourful brand is being used in official Town of Okotoks tourism advertisements in such publications as the Tourism Calgary Visitor Guide, Southwest Alberta Vacation Guide, Cowboy Trail Guide, Dawgs Souvenir Program, Routes Magazine, Okotoks Living Magazine, Vue Weekly and Alberta Views magazine.

The message is also incorporated into the Community Events Spotlight on both the Eagle 100.9FM and Sun Country 99.7FM radio stations. Approximately $15,000 is being spent on promoting destination tourism awareness in 2012.

The Okotoks Visitor Information Centre is located at 53 North Railway Street, inside the Okotoks Art Gallery. Summer hours are Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 12noon-5pm.
