Seekers Media and partners launch unique social media network

Seekers Media has launched a network of social media journalists that will energize the value of its content to clients and followers. This network of people will contribute strictly to social media channels, using a model that newspaper and radio reporters have used for years in print and broadcasting.   

Through technologies such as, Seekers is syndicating the social media feeds of reporters, destination marketing organizations (DMOs), ski resorts and festivals, to display within Seekers Media’s mobile and online channels.   

“We are proud to roll out this new service to our audience, where they can rely on Seekers for timely relevant social content, paired with the quality editorial, photo and video content that we’ve been producing for five years now,” says Jim Barr, Seekers Media President. “If there’s 20 centimetres of fresh snow, or the music festival of the summer happening within a certain community, Seekers has the ability to get the word out quickly - before, during and after the event. It’s timely content audiences want.”    

Besides being a benefit to Seekers community of users (generating over 1,000,000 information requests annually), the social media team also helps Seekers’ destination and resort partners with relevant content for their social media channels. Seekers is launching this network with such partners as The Town of Vermilion, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies and others. This means the DMOs, resorts, hotels and retailers now have a local social media journalist reporting on all of their events and news. That content gains maximum exposure by being re-posted through Seekers Media’s channels.   

The Seekers initiative is designed to integrate with Google’s recent change in how its search engine results are displayed. Google favours sites that carry quality content paired with a strong social media presence.   

Seekers Media is committed to ensuring its social media reporters are savvy about the latest social media channels and techniques. The company will continue to invest in its correspondents network with ongoing training as well expanding the team through 2014.
