Sneak-a-peak at the 2012 Calgary Stampede’s centennial celebration

Calgary – It’s been a celebration 100 years in the making and today, the Calgary Stampede is thrilled to unveil some of its plans for the 2012 Centennial celebration. New rides, new shows and new fashions are just a few of the programs and events visitors to the Stampede will have a chance to enjoy at next year’s Stampede, July 6-15.

“We’ve already come a long way in planning The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth for 2012, but we also know we’ve still got a lot of work to do,” says Mike Casey, president and chairman of the board, Calgary Stampede. “We’re literally inviting the world to join us next year, whether you’re from a nation half-way around the world or a community in southern Alberta.”

The plans for the Stampede’s Centennial celebrations are built on three strategic pillars:

  1. Showcasing Alberta to the world – our marketing campaign with our partners at the Canadian Tourism Commission, has never been stronger
  2. Creating an experience of a lifetime – We’ll be starting a White Hat Roundup, taking our Stampede story into communities around the province, with the help of funding through the Government of Alberta
  3. Building a lasting legacy – We’re building Stampede Park to become a world class gathering place, a place Calgarians and visitors will be proud to visit for another hundred years.

From those pillars, we’ve built the theme, “We’re Greatest Together”, and today, the Stampede is introducing several new highlights for next year, including:

  • Together We Create – The 2012 Calgary Stampede will feature a show unlike anything anyone has ever seen. The incredible new show will feature the best in western horsemanship, incredible sets and effects and the finest in First Nations performances.   Audiences will be spellbound by the beauty of the stars of the show: the horses.
  • Together We Dress – The Calgary Stampede is pleased to partner with Roots Canada to develop a product line to commemorate the 100-year anniversary and will be available at Roots locations and the Stampede store for holiday shopping.
  • Together We Dance – As one of Canada’s largest music festivals, the Calgary Stampede is pleased to announce the first concert of our Stampede Saddledome Concerts series.  On July 13, 2012 we welcome Canadian Country superstar, Johnny Reid.
  • Together we Ride – To honour the famous bull, the Calgary Stampede will welcome a new rollercoaster named Outlaw to its thrilling midway.  Also, an 850-foot zip line across Stampede Park will thrill guests like never before.
  • Together We Dine - The Calgary Stampede will be taking their surprise birthday cake celebrations to several community events in and around Calgary beginning in the New Year.
  • A new website has also been created for the Centennial and beyond. My Stampede will be a collection of the millions of wonderful Stampede memories that people have gathered over the years. Simply log on to and follow the links to share your wonderful memories.

Additional details, including the announcement of the 2012 Centennial Parade Marshal will be released at the 100-Day Launch on March 29, 2012.
