Congratulations to Paddle the Peace!

Paddle the Peace won the Rural Tourism Champion Award at the fourteenth annual Growing Rural Tourism Conference in Camrose on March 4. Paddle the Peace received top honours for its phenomenal growth over the past several years and all the opportunities they pursued tirelessly.

The Champion Award recognizes leadership, innovation and outstanding accomplishments in Alberta’s rural areas – through campaigns and projects that successfully promote their area or attraction as a must-see destination.

“The significance of the Champion Award is amazing,” said the Chair of the Growing Rural Tourism Conference Jennifer Filip, who co-presented the award over dinner during the three-day summit on rural tourism at the Camrose Regional Exhibition. “This year the amount of nominations received exceeded our expectations and the comprehensiveness of each of these submissions was astonishing!”

A group of dedicated Municipal partners, businesses and volunteers, Paddle the Peace launched four years ago and promotes awareness of the Region’s natural recreational resources along the Mighty Peace River including its surrounding campgrounds and lakes.

Paddle the Peace began with three Municipalities: County of Northern Lights, Northern Sunrise County and the Town of Peace River working together to promote tourism, recreation and local businesses surrounding the Mighty Peace River.

“On behalf of The Paddle the Peace Action Committee we would like to thank Growing Rural Tourism for recognizing our hard work, ingenuity and dedication in the regional project of Paddle the Peace. The team has an excellent working relationship in a project that supports the vision of our regional municipalities. Each year, we look for opportunities to improve on the previous year’s successes. A fun family environment, with a ‘Stay & Play’ theme allows paddlers of all ages to enjoy the day or weekend along the Mighty Peace and gives our region its ‘time to shine’!” said Teresa Tupper, Community Services Clerk, County of Northern Lights

The award was sponsored by the Camrose Regional Exhibition, Alberta Tourism, Parks & Recreation, Alberta Agriculture and Travel Alberta.
