Medicine Hat Story Launched

The City of Medicine Hat released a new community story and brand on January 13.

"We want to promote our distinctive community and excellent quality of life to our citizens and the world," said Mayor Ted Clugston. "We live in a warm, vibrant community and wanted to create a community brand that will have a greater impact."

The story, accompanying logo and "Sunshine State of Mind" tagline were developed after engagement with stakeholders and the public in the fall of 2014. Building on work and research led by the Tourism Industry Group three years ago, the new story captures the essence of today's Medicine Hat.

"We are fortunate to have had input and participation from key stakeholders and the public," said Clugston. "We want the story we tell to be genuine and authentic. It's the story of who we are and who we hope to be."

The story highlights the city’s culture, people, physical beauty, climate and quality of life benefits.

"In our discussions and through our survey, we heard how proud residents are to live here and the features they believe to be most compelling about our community," said Leah Prestayko, Manager Corporate Communications. "We want to share that story to potential residents, visitors and investors."

The logo features Medicine Hat in a blue, flowing script to signify the dominance of the South Saskatchewan River on the city's landscape and our expansive prairie sky. "Sunshine State of Mind" is clay-coloured and balanced by a sun of warm brush strokes.

The story and logo will be shared with stakeholders who help market the community beyond its borders. Click here to view the video presented at the 2015 State of the City Address presented by Mayor Clugston.
