Former Travel Alberta VP recognized for growing community

Wynn McLean, former Travel Alberta Vice-President of Community Relations, was recognized with an Award of Merit this month by the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies.

McLean is known for his passionate advocacy of rural tourism in Alberta. As a native of Camrose, AB, he is also an ambassador for the importance of agriculture to communities looking to thrive. At Travel Alberta, he is recognized as a mentor, a leader and a driver behind the importance of tourism to economic development across the province.

Some of the achievements noted in the decision to name McLean as this year's recipient of the Award of Merit include the following:

  • Served as a valued member of Travel AB’s Strategic Tourism Marketing Council
  • Played a significant role in the development of Alberta’s Tourism Framework
  • Founding Director of Tourism Camrose and the founding Chair of the Growing Rural Tourism Conference
  • Arrived during the infant stages of Camrose Bull Congress and grew it for the Camrose Regional Exhibition
  • (CRE) to what we know it to be today
  • Was key building consensus in his community as a hometown boy and demonstrated strong business
  • acumen for projects such as the Casino, Hotel and Campground development in Camrose

Wynn wakes up every day determined to help build better and stronger communities, and he is the king of building lasting relationships with sponsors, governments, volunteers/staff and other key stakeholders. “He is a leader and understood that you need to lead from the front” say his colleagues – a great example of boots
on the ground is he could often be seen selling 50/50 tickets at the Big Valley Jamboree on a regular basis.

On behalf of the many industry partners and colleagues active in Alberta tourism today that have benefited from Wynn's community spirit, Travel Alberta offers a most sincere congratulations. Way to go Wynn!
